Summer Beauty: My Top 8 Hair Care and Styling Products
From shampoo and conditioner and treatments to creams, gels and sprays; this is my list of favourite haircare products for summer.
________
I'm so excited to kick off the very first article of the Lion in the Wild Summer Beauty series! Over the next month or so I'll be sharing with you my favourite beauty products for summer, which here in Australia officially begins next week, although it sure does feel as though it's already hit. I'll be sharing with you anything from skin care, fake tans, makeup and much more.
While we're meticulous when it comes to protecting and moisturising our skin during the summertime, we're often (myself included) guilty of neglecting our luscious locks. So, to begin the Summer Beauty series, I've put together a list of my favourite hair care and styling products for the season. With the Australian summer just around the corner, it's time to stock up on the very best treatments, creams, sprays and gels, to make sure your hair is looking it's absolute best under the sun.
My newest haircare routine begins with the
1. Make Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner, which, put simply, is a blondes best friend. Now, don't be put off by the intense violet pigments of the Shampoo and Conditioner; that's exactly what is going to take the brassiness out of your blonde hair (you know, that annoying yellow-orange colour your hair tends to fade into after bleaching), leaving it in it's original, bright condition. While I may be a redhead, I do have a soft balayage, which has faded severely since I last had it done a couple of years ago, but even still, the Make Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner makes it just that but lighter and brighter. When I do end up getting it re-done, I'll be using these religiously.
If, like me, you've got bleached hair, you're probably a little more susceptible to dry hair, which is easily taken care of with a good treatment or two. I've been using the
2. Make Better Treatment in the shower after I've washed my hair. Since it's so long and thick, I do tend to use a large dollop of the cream, and then I leave it for about 5-10 minutes while I shave my legs or exfoliate. Half way through I apply another treatment to my ends, the
3. Goldwell Duel Senses Blondes & Highlights 60 Second Treatment. I find that blonde-specific creams are richer than their normal counterparts, as they tend to target brittleness caused by bleaching. Plus, it smells delicious.
So, the next two products are all about protecting your hair from the harsh rays of the sun. As you know, I'm pedantic about protecting my skin in summer, but I've never really thought about the damage the sun could potentially be doing to my hair until recently when I was introduced to a Swedish brand called Sachajuan. 4. Sachajuan Hair in the Sun is like a sunscreen for your hair, without the greasiness even though it's a water resistant cream. I personally love using the 5. Sachajuan Hair After the Sun cream after a beach session, when hair can feel a bit brittle because of the sun, salt and ocean breeze.

And finally, I also had to share with you my absolute favourite summer styling products. Until recently, I very rarely used styling products because I didn't particularly like the way they made my hair feel. I much prefer when my hair is natural and soft, without the heaviness of gels and sprays. Now, I can't blow-dry my hair without them. It's probably a little obvious, but the
Toni&Guy Casual range was made for summer. The first of the product range that I wanted to share with you is the
6. Toni&Guy Forming Spray Gel, which I spray on my roots before blowdrying. It gives my hair that added lift instead of being flat.
The second product is one you've probably heard me raving on about before on Lion in the Wild, and that is the
7. Toni&Guy Sea Salt Texturising Spray, which is all about getting effortlessly cool beachy waves. I spray it quite generously through wet or dry hair and then twist it and plait it and scrunch it until I've achieved the look I want. Sometimes I even use it on my blow-dried straight hair to give it more body and texture. And finally the last product is the
8. Toni&Guy Flexible Hold Hairspray, which is the perfect all-day hold that still allows movement (no stiffness here). I use it on loose waves that I may have created with the Sea Salt Spray or even with a barrelled wand.
And if you're a gentleman, then I'd highly suggest these grooming products!
