Looking Back on 2014: A Travel-Packed Year
A month-by-month look at the best year yet.
________
In January, Brad and I flew to Singapore where we spent a few days lazing at ParkRoyal on Pickering and exploring the vibrant city. Believe it or not, it was my very first summer holiday. And then, in typical fashion, we travelled to Japan to experience yet another white winter. From snowboarding in Niseko where I landed my first indi grab (total newbie trick, but hey, I was stoked) to Tokyo, Takayama, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Osaka; Japan truly stole our hearts into February. We also experienced our very first Michelin Star restaurant, Kamimura.
March and April saw us fly to Bali for my first Indonesian experience, where we were pampered by Lifestyle Retreats at IZE Hotel Seminyak and The Balé Nusa Dua. It was our first official trip with Lion in the Wild, something I never envisioned could happen so early on. During that trip, Brad and I vowed that we'd always work hard no matter where it took us, creating quality and unique content along the way.
At the end of May, Lion in the Wild was announced in the top 3 of the Wish x Honda Style Challenge and were flown to Sydney. Before the trip ended in June, I was unexpectedly announced the winner at the Style Challenge Event, and have been driving around in a brand new Honda City ever since (lucky us!).
Before July ended, Brad and I once again found ourselves in Bali on yet another blogging trip, this time with The Luxe Nomad. We were spoiled rotten at The Santai Umalas, L Hotel Seminyak and The Shanti Residence, and quite frankly, come August, we really didn't want to leave this beautiful island! Luckily for me, as soon as I jetted home, I was off again on a road trip up north to Kalbarri on Western Australia's beautiful coral coast. And while we were travelling, the construction for our new house began!
September was the first month of the year we didn't travel, and as a self-confessed homebody, it sure was nice to be home for longer than a few weeks. The walls of our house went up really quick and we were finally able to walk through our new house for the first time, though it looked far from a home at this stage. September also saw me taking the next step with Lion in the Wild, as I became represented by talent management company, Moda Creative.
In October, we made up for our lack of travel the month before as we set off for Bangkok, Thailand, one of the most crazy travel experiences of my life. With an insiders guide to the city, we found ourselves exploring the most incredible temples, driving around in sports cars, experiencing clubs as VIPs and, the most amazing of all, joining monks at their temple a few hours out of the city where Brad's brother was blessed for his birthday. I can't even begin to describe how special this experience was; it truly was something I thought I'd never witness, especially as a westerner. It was a whirlwind trip, and we were grateful to stay with The Luxe Nomad again at two of their luxurious inner-city locations; VIE Hotel and Siam@Siam Design Hotel.
Less than 12-hours at home to quickly re-pack and I was off again to Sydney for the Pedestrian Awards, for which Lion in the Wild was nominated in the Lifestyle category (one of a few nominations this year). I spent my time in Sydney visiting showrooms, PR's and exploring Bondi Beach like a local with Jenelle and Emily.
I also signed up as a freelance art director, photographer and model with one of the world's largest beauty companies, Estée Lauder. Working via e-correspondence with the Clinique creative director and art producers in New York City, it was an incredibly challenging project, but also my career highlight so far.
November and December once again served my inner homebody, as I spent these last couple of months knuckling down at Lion in the Wild HQ as we approached silly season (also known as Christmas!). I teamed up with a number of fabulous national and global companies to produce amazing content, as well as experiencing the luxury of Crown Metropol Perth; with Brad alongside me the whole way.
While 2014 was full of highs, there were also a few lows, all of which make this year so memorable and, yes, my best so far. After all, without the lows, the highs wouldn't be so rewarding nor the growth so substantial. To all my fabulous subscribers and readers, Happy New Years!
