How to Style the Day to Night Outfit
The key elements to versatile styling.
________
If there's one thing my closet is jam-packed with, it's those essential versatile pieces that'll take you from, you guessed it, day to night. Whether it's a basic button-down shirt, an asymmetric leather skirt or a statement dress (like
this one by Shone Joy), having garments that you can dress up or dress down can mean the difference between a kick-ass closet that'll never let you down and one that, well, will.
As soon as I got my hands on the Shona Joy Sumatra Ruffle Dress, I knew I wanted to feature it here on Lion in the Wild, purely for the fact that I'm kind of all sorts of in-love with it. Oh, and did I mention that I've already worn it half a dozen times (and some)? That is exactly why it's the perfect piece to show you how to take a casual daytime outfit to something a little more dressy for the evening.
________
THE CASUAL DAYTIME OUTFIT:
Shona Joy dress | Black fedora | Rebecca Minkoff bag | Chelsea boots
Oscar Wylee Sunglasses
There's probably no trend I've been wearing longer than that of the classic black fedora and über comfy chelsea boots, both of which are my go-to's for when I need to add a little 'coolness' to my look. I love the way these pieces can easily dress down any outfit without losing that effortlessness. With my hair out, my favourite cross body bag by my side and my daily dainty silver jewellery on, this is the perfect way to dress down the ruffles for a casual Sunday brunch.

THE DRESSY NIGHTTIME OUTFIT:
Shona Joy dress | Leather biker jacket | Rebecca Minkoff bag | Missguided heels | NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella
After the sun sinks below the horizon, it's time to dress things up a bit and it's probably far easier than you may think. First things first, swap the flats for a pair of statement heels and turn your cross body bag into a clutch (if you can). I also like to do something different with my hair, like simply tying it back into a simply low ponytail. Add a jacket and a swipe of your favourite bold lipstick, and you're ready to go!
