Stay Calm and Colour-In (Seriously!)

Six reasons you should buy a colouring-in book.
________

Admittedly, I rediscovered colouring-in after being persuaded to spend hours with my little sister-in-law hunched over her new favourite colouring-in book. And I enjoyed it. Like, really enjoyed it. At least for the first 30-minutes anyway. There's something about colouring between the lines with an array of brightly hued pencils that makes me feel good.

As it turns out, they're not just for the kids anymore. In fact, there's a whole market for adult colouring-in books apparently and I am so on-board with this. In fact, I have my own little collection of books waiting for me in a drawer.

Here are 6 things that might just persuade you to stock-up on a dozen Crayola pencils.
________

1. Meditation for those that don't like doing nothing. When I was in Year 12, a bunch of us did yoga for a term simply because it was in the air-conditioned chapel in the middle of summer. It also included meditation and it was awesome. I'll admit though, meditation isn't something I regularly (if ever) practise simply for the fact that I find it hard to do nothing unless I'm by a pool with a cocktail. Luckily for us, colouring-in is pretty much another form of mediation with the same amazing benefits, like the ability to calm a restless mind.

2. Helps to reduce those pesky things called stress and anxiety. Two things that suck and often paralyses your mind. Yep, I'm speaking from experience. We've all been there. There a few things I've learnt that can help like reading a novel and going for a jog, and colouring-in is definitely on that list too. As soon as you start applying your creative flair to that colourless page, you'll find yourself in another world. Your mind will relax and you'll temporarily forget about your woes, which is kind of amazing. When you finish, you'll feel like a new you or at least a lot better.

3. Decreases zombiness, increases mindfulness. Whatever that is, right? Right. Or wrong. Mindfulness is apparently not going through life's routine like a robot. It's all about being in-touch with your inner self and having an awareness not only of what you're doing on a day-to-day basis (9-5 included), but also of how you're feeling. Sounds pretty lame, huh? Well, I dare you to sit down, colour-in and feel the mindfulness. It's actually a pretty great skill to have.

4. A creative chill-out sesh. Sure, the illustration may already be laid out for you, but you get to decide everything else and it's kind of super fun, especially when you get to see the final product! Pour yourself a mojito, hit play on your favourite playlist and chill-out over your collection of colouring-in books. Doesn't sound too shabby, eh?

So, who else is spending their Sunday night with a colouring-in book?
