Styling the Minimalist Midi Shirt Dress
Experimenting with personal style.
________
When it comes to personal style, I've never been much of an experimenter. I've kind of always stuck to my comfort zone with pieces like skinny jeans, denim cut offs, oversized tees, a fedora, chelsea boots and the list goes on. I continuously get asked to define my style, to which I always reply
feminine yet edgy (how cliché!), but I honestly cringe at the question because I don't think I have it down pat yet.
As I get older though, I'm more comfortable with myself, my body and my identity, and thus I find myself wearing pieces that I once wouldn't have given a second glance. Take this
Staple the Label dress, for example. It's a conservative button-up piece that is relatively plain except for a few distinct minimalist details; its on-trend midi length, waist tie for shape and, my personal favourite, the tie-up cuff sleeves.
Layered with a pair of skinny blue jeans, and accessorised with a pair of
fabulous heels and a
Rebecca Minkoff bag, this is surprisingly one of the most experimental outfits I've ever worn. I mean, layering a dress with pants? A year ago I would've laughed at the concept, but now, I can't help but stare in awe at anyone that rocks it (extra points if they're flared).
I'm currently snuggled in my office chair, typing away, whilst sipping my second cappuccino of the day, and listening to the ferocious wind and rain outside. I know I'll regret saying this in a couple of months, but I am thoroughly enjoying the first of bout of winter weather. It's cold, it's stormy and it's damn cosy (if you ask me). It won't be long before I'll be needing a couple of extra layers to get me through the decreasing temperatures though. For now though, bare arms or legs are still a welcomed option, at least during the day when the sun decides to say hello. Not today.
