Tokyo Travel Diary

Tokyo, wow. This is one city that will not let you down. If Tokyo isn't on your bucket list, write it down and move it straight to the top. Believe me when I say, you won't regret it. With a population of almost 14 million, it isn't hard to believe that Tokyo is as eclectic as it is buzzing. Whether you want to experience Japan's infamous pop culture or ancient history, Tokyo has it all. Nestled amongst the never ending concrete jungle, you'll find hundreds of traditional Japanese buildings, shrines and temples; harmony in the world's most populous metropolis.

We stayed just a short walk from Shinagawa Station, one of the busiest stations in the city. For me, just the thought of using the Tokyo subway was daunting, but I'm glad we did. It is the most efficient and simple transport system I've ever experienced. It wasn't long until Brad and I were confidently hopping on and off at stations all over the city. We explored everywhere from the Tokyo Tower (view pictured above), Ginza, Shinjuku and Shibuya to the Imperial Palace and Senso-ji Temple, yet we still felt as though we needed a few more weeks just to get our fix. I haven't even made mention of the huge array of restaurants, cafes and dessert bars (my personal weakness).

We hit the jackpot on our first full day in Tokyo, with near perfect blue skies allowing us to view Mt Fuji from the Tokyo Tower. The following day, after taking these photographs, we woke up to the most fierce snowstorm Tokyo has experienced in half a century.

I also have to shoutout to all the beautiful people we encountered whilst in Tokyo and throughout Japan, who, despite speaking very little to no English, bent over backwards to help us find our way with massive smiles on their faces. I have never ever ever encountered such a genuinely delightful, respectful and polite group of people, and this has truly changed my perspective on life.

And if I still haven't convinced you to visit this incredible electric city, we've already cemented plans to head back in the not too distant future (if that isn't proof, what is?).
