Kalbarri Photo Diary

And to think, it's even more captivating in real life.

________

It was the first few days I've had off in a long, long time. I know what you're thinking; what about Bali? What about Bangkok? Truthfully, I'd be lucky to get one day off between blogging, meetings and freelance art directing while I'm abroad, let alone here at home. When the ladies and I first discussed a road trip to beautiful Kalbarri, just a 7.5 hour drive from Perth, I knew I wanted it to be an actual holiday, or at least partly.

And while it was a lovely little break, I couldn't help but get a few snaps of the visually stunning Kalbarri landscape (and not just for the @lioninthewild #litwroadtrip Instagram). Diverse it is with its infamous river gorges and rock formations to world class surf breaks and coastal views just down the highway; truly, I just couldn't capture its insane beauty.

It was well-worth not being able to breathe during the albeit short treks to Natures Window and Z Bend (the short of breath thanks to a nasty little cold with a severely blocked nose I'd picked up no doubt in the air somewhere between DPS to PER), for they were brilliant and magnificent and mind-blowingly spectacular, all at the same time.

When we weren't exploring the iconic gorges, you'd have most likely found us enjoying the warm sun at the picturesque Blue Holes Beach; easily spotted as a rare gaggle of young ladies in a small coastal town can be. And we weren't just spoilt for perfect weather, but also the most sensational sunset I may have ever seen (and that's saying something when you live on the West Coast).

I'll admit we were somewhat disappointed when the clouds rolled in and it seemed impossible that we'd witness a Kalbarri sunset, but we stayed on and our patience was rewarded when the clouds only amplified the colour as it turned from pretty pastels to a saturated wild fire in the sky. This was reflected by the endless ripples of the Indian Ocean, setting out a world of dazzling colour before us. Needless to say, I was glad I bought my camera.

Just a few days in Kalbarri was all it took to fall head-over-heels for not only stand-up paddle boarding (so much fun!), but also Western Australia's Coral Coast.
