You could say that Brad and I have become quite the experts when it comes to making the most of a hotel buffet breakfast, though this can be quite difficult when the buffet doesn't quite live up to standards. This was not, I repeat not, the case at 8:00AM at VIE Hotel's La VIE restaurant. In fact, it was quite the opposite.

As soon as you walk into La VIE, you'll be welcomed by its luxurious, airy interior, with floor-to-ceiling windows, statement orange cushioned chairs and foam-like pendant lights throughout. We were seated by the friendly staff by the window with a view of the surrounding city and immediately offered to take our drinks order. Of course, at this stage, I was still drinking cappuccinos in their magnitude, so it was our drink of choice (yes, I've temporarily given up coffee, le sigh).

Look, I won't lie, I prefer a la carte. In the past, I haven't particularly liked buffet because it really throws my whole meal off balance. Do I stick with one cuisine or sample a mixture? Where are the entrees? Where are the mains? Will people notice when I go up to the dessert table for the 3rd time? You know how it goes. It's confusing and overwhelming. But, one thing we've discovered about 5-star hotels is that they usual know a good buffet.

Expertly laid out deliciously before us was a spread of tempting savoury and sweet, western and Asian cuisine. Everything was perfectly grouped together to make things a little more simple. After many a buffet in my time travelling, I've realised that the best thing you can do is scan and walk through the buffet first, making mental notes as you go. I almost always get a plate of fruit, an omelette and, my personal favourite, baked delights. What can I say? I just can't help myself. Alongside my coffee, I'll also fill up a glass of orange, apple or watermelon juice. Oh, and I can't seem to resist a good bagel either. Now, I don't know whether I do this because it is the best damn way to enjoy a buffet breakfast, or whether it's just due to the fact that it makes a fabulous looking flat-lay for Instagram, but either way, it works.

Great coffee (le sigh, again), fresh fruit, baked delights and not a dish to be washed? Now that, my friends, is my perfect morning. Oh how I enjoy hotel life, especially when it comes with a delicious buffet breakfast.
