The Luxury Fragrances I’m Addicted to Right Now

Christian, Chloé and Carven.
________

I still remember my first luxury fragrance; a gift from my parents that my dad had picked up on the way home from Dubai. It was a tall gold curvaceous bottle and the scent I would wear for a decade to come; it was the haute Christian Dior J'adore Eau de Parfum. Sophisticated and refined, the floral fragrance became a symbol of a woman I aspired to be.

Obsessed with the Dior Girl image, years later it was the Miss Dior Cherie Eau de Parfum that persuaded me to try something new, but the same. Miss Dior is the more delicate and luminous little sister, which most certainly fitted the young woman that I was (and I suppose, to a lesser extent, still am). And while Dior will always be in my heart (and on the nape of my neck, no doubt), there have been other fragrances that have scented my world recently.

It wasn't just the perfect little bottle of Chloé Signature Eau de Toilette that persuaded me to dapple in other perfumes, but also its delicately feminine scent of fresh white roses that make it the perfect daytime eau de toilette. And so, yes, I've swapped my inner Dior Girl for the young and flirtatious Chloé Girl. Can you blame me? (Answer: Absolutely not.)

As light and luxurious is the Carven L'Eau de Toilette because, well, who can resist a hint of peony, freesia and white musk? Evidently, not me. The graceful bottle with its elegant ribbon detail is now a permanent fixture on my dressing table and I delight a day surrounded in its fresh fragrance. There's no denying that this is one of my new favourite scents right now.

If there was a fragrance created just for a warm summers day, it's the Clinique Happy Eau de Parfum. Its floral scent is bound bow down to its namesake and put a smile on your face and lift your mood, especially with its hint of fresh citrus. Needless to say, it's a seasonal delight.

To break the trend (yes, I am aware that each perfume so far begins with a 'C'), I also had to give mention to the ever seductive Marc Jacobs Decadence Eau de Parfum. While it was the gold, deep green and python print packaging that initially caught my attention (who doesn't need a fragrance with its very own carry tassel and chain?). Its woody scent is both luxurious and sensual, and despite the sweet notes, it is no doubt the mature sister of the other perfumes by Jacobs. This one is coming out in full force when the weather decides cools down, and the sooner, the better.

The final luxury fragrance won't launch until next month, however I couldn't not feature the Calvin Klein ck2 Eau de Toilette, which is by far the most interesting and complex of them all. The clean, minimal bottle designs screams Calvin Klein as much as a pair of their branded underwear (and a six-pack to boot), but its claim to be genderless. I've used Brad's deodorant for as long as we've been together, so the mere thought of sharing a fragrance sent me into a frenzy. While it is undoubtedly on the feminine side when sampled from the bottle, once applied to the skin it is fresh and crisp, neither too feminine or masculine.
