How to Style the Classic Black Vest
Which look is your favourite? 1, 2 or 3?
I've always liked the idea of vests to add a little interest to an outfit, but for some reason, styling them can be challenging at the best of times. I don't know whether it's the longer length, the sleeveless design or a combination of both that throws me, but they look so fabulous when you get it right.
As soon as I spotted this vest from Ivory & Chain, I knew I had to revisit my personal struggle of styling such a piece, and I'm glad I did. The eye-catching leather lace-up detail complete with silver eyelets was simply too good to pass up. So, today I want to share with you three ways I've been wearing the classic black vest (half for myself as a reference when I get stuck, and half for anyone who has the same styling challenges as me).
LOOK #1. As you know, my style is casual at the best of times, so it only seemed natural to pair the vest with a crop top, a pair of high waisted denim and mule slides for a comfy daytime look. I also made sure to add in some silver hardware to match the eyelets, such as my watch and satchel bag. Went the weather decides to give in to winter, I'll be swapping out the crop for a long sleeve shirt and the mules for boots.
LOOK #2. Before the onset of winter, I've been wearing as many of my summer dresses as possible. I adore how the vest is able to toughen up a beautiful long sleeved floral dress, made only better by belting the dress at the waist for shape and pairing it with suede block heels. I'll admit, this is probably my favourite look of the three!
LOOK #3. The first time I actually wore the vest was to the H&M Perth GPO launch. I wore the vest fastened over a plain black sleeveless dress, which disguised it as a dress itself. Styled with a pair of my favourite boots and cross body bag, it was a comfortable yet chic ensemble for a night of exploring (the store is huge), shopping and fine dining.
How do you style a vest? I'd love to know!
I'm wearing: Ivory & Chain vest, black crop top, Glassons jeans, Oscar Wyleesunglasses, 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli bag, Cluse watch and mule slides.
