The Spa At The Amala
We found ourselves in an artfully hidden and secluded retreat,
engulfed by a lush tropical rainforest complete with tranquil ponds
and a deep sense of zen.
________
While we were staying in Seminyak, Brad and I were lucky enough to be invited to The Spa at The Amala, where we were pampered with a 60-minute traditional Balinese massage. We were dropped at the entrance of The Amala by our driver from sister hotel, IZE, only to be met by tall white walls lined with green bamboo trees. We didn't have to walk far to forget our central Seminyak location, as we found ourselves in an artfully hidden and secluded retreat, engulfed by a lush tropical rainforest complete with tranquil ponds and a deep sense of zen.
At reception, we were greeted by the lovely and personable Resort Manager, Madlen, who guided us deeper into the peace and calm of the holistic retreat. The Amala's luxurious, romantic and intimate scale was unmistakable, even before we entered the treatment room. Madlen explained to us the concept of The Amala, which means 'pure and unspoiled' in the ancient language of Sanskrit. And while children are not permitted at the romantic retreat, Madlen laughs as we're told that "couples are encouraged to make babies; just don't bring them". Needless to say, The Amala is a popular romantic rendezvous for honeymooners seeking wellness at the paramount of luxury.
The treatment room was like no other. The tranquil ambience was set by a soft background melody and dim natural lighting. We quickly took a million photos to try and capture the magic of The Spa, before donning our robes and relaxing with a glass of cucumber, lime and basil, and complimentary foot bath. Our masseuses were professional on the utmost scale, maintaining our privacy with each skilful fold of our sheets. The full body massage was expertly delivered, from foot to head. I could even forgive my delightful masseuse for gently pushing the knots out of my back, no doubt thanks to years spent typing away in front of a computer.
Post massage, when we finally managed to rise in our pacified state, we were given time to soak in the magnificent outdoor stone plunge bath, surrounded by floating rose petals and frangipanis. As Brad and I exited the treatment room, we were seated in the al fresco of the Bamboo Restaurant, where we were presented with hot ginger tea and organic biscuits, before reluctantly departing the holistic escape that is The Amala.
We were officially 'zenned-out', and were incapable of anything more than consuming a cold beverage at Potato Head Beach Club for the rest of the afternoon.
