Welcome to L Hotel Seminyak, located in Bali's most trendy neighbourhood. With just 30 luxury suites, this quirky abode is a deserving member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and it's not difficult to see why. Don't be surprised if every staff member greets you by name; it's all apart of the highly personalised service.
After an easy-breezy check-in, a service the Balinese seem to have mastered, Brad and I were escorted to our room (unexpectedly in a cosy, red-lit elevator no less) by the friendly and informative head butler. When we reached the Lifestyle Suite, there was no doubting its compact size, comparable to some of the notoriously small 'boxes' we stayed in in Japan, but don't let that put you off.
The chic space has been skilfully designed with a palette of white ivory, dark timber and greys with a playful smattering of orange and pink. The open ensuite, a daringly effective layout that makes the most of the snug area, features fashionable white marble walls, mirrors and glass, which further magnifies the suite. Did I mention the delicious assortment of designer amenities by Kiehl's? The focal point of the room however is the extravagant handcrafted Balinese wooden ceiling ornament, which seems to be the pride of each L Hotel suite.
Don't be surprised if waking is met with a little more effort than usual, thanks to the comfiest king-sized bed you've ever met, not to mention an extensive pillow menu. If Seminyak's myriad of boutiques, beaches and bars are on the agenda though, make sure you order a freshly brewed cappuccino with your wake-up call, one of the many benefits of the 24-hour 'whatever-you-need' butler service.
While L Hotel is the perfect base for your Bali stay, you'd be forgiven for not venturing outside its four-walls, with the luxe lodgings offering everything you could ever need. Nevertheless, it was the complimentary shuttle service that seals the deal and subsequently takes L Hotel a step above other stays in the area. The supplied mobile phone not only means guests can make the most of transfers to-and-from spots within Seminyak, but also contact their butler on-the-go. While L Hotel is victorious in big surprises, it's these little touches that are the icing on the cake.
