Tokyo: Two Worlds Collided

A mind-blowing destination for the old and the new.

________

On our first full day in Tokyo, we trekked to Yoyogi Park, ate crepes along Takeshita Street in Harajuku, cozied up to a Starbucks chai latte overlooking Shibuya Crossing, wandered through the Kabukichō district in Shinjuku and enjoyed my favourite Xiao Long Bao at Din Tai Fung. It was a packed day of sightseeing and, yes, eating, eating and more eating. What can I say? Japanese food is my thing.

Probably the most striking thing about Tokyo for me, apart from the sheer number of people, is the mix of new world and old world. Japan's ancient history and rich culture remains side-by-side with its skyscrapers and cutting edge technology. Within a short walk we were embraced by a beautiful dense forest and traditional Japanese gardens, quaint temples and shrines, as well as bustling shopping districts and its infamous subway system.

Tokyo has once again proven itself as a mind-blowing destination for the old and the new; two worlds colliding, in the best possible way.

For the moment though, my mind is only on one city and it isn't Tokyo. I'm heading over to Sydney for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia this weekend with the wonderful people at Bluejuice (a last minute decision!). So, I'll be emailing like a mad thing tonight and tomorrow in preparation for the week ahead. Don't forget to follow my Fashion Week adventures on the @lioninthewild Instagram!
