Want Perfect Eyeliner Flicks? Try This Trick!

My step-by-step guide to creating the cat eye.

Eyeliner is hard. Liquid eyeliner? Well, that stuff is practically impossible, even when you've been using it for years and years. It's either too thick or too thin, too rough or too uneven. And then when you do finally get it right, chances are you have nowhere to go (and when you do, you completely stuff it up). Sound familiar? Yeah, me too. Today I wanted to share with you how I do my liquid eyeliner, plus a trick I use to get the perfect flick.

HOW TO LIQUID EYELINER FLICKS:

STEP 1. Using the side of your eyeliner pen, lightly 'stamp' your lid from the centre outwards along the lash line. Do the same from the centre of the lash line to the inner corner, completing the thin line.

STEP 2. To create the cat eye flick, use the stamping technique with the side of your liquid liner pen again to create a line from the outer corner of your eyelid that points to the tail of your eyebrow. You can make it as long or as short as you like, remembering that you can always extend it later on if need be.

STEP 3. Now, draw another line from the tail of your winged eyeliner to the thin line along your lash line, about 1/3 of the way in towards the inner corner.

STEP 4. Once you've done that on both sides, fill in the gap with eyeliner.

STEP 5. I've gone ahead and made my eyeliner a little thicker. After all, it is an eyeliner tutorial right? My flicks aren't quite right though...

STEP 6. Here's my sneaky trick. Taking a cotton bud, I coat it in a thin layer of product by using the lid of my Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover (currently on sale, by the way). Then, I drag the cotton bud along the outer edge of the eyeliner flick to create a perfectly straight line and removing any unwanted liner.

And voila! That is how I create a cat eye with perfect eyeliner flicks. I finished the look with coatings of mascara, and in the image below, the Ardell Accent Lashes (301) since I told you all I would try my hand at false lashes one of these days (and now I have). What do you think?
