Is Toning Your Skin Necessary These Days?

Here are 5 reasons why you should be using a facial toner.
________

It's no secret that skin toners have seen their day come and go. While using a toner was once a must-do, nowadays they're easily and often skipped in any skincare regime. I mean, what do they really do? Are they just there to remove excess impurities after cleansing? Or do they do something else really awesome for your skin? After all, cleansers have improved vastly over the years, so more importantly, do we even need to use a skin toner at all or can we just skip straight to patting on our favourite serum? So many questions, so little time.

My mum has never been a fan; she quite honestly thinks they're pointless and, well, a waste of money. Yet somehow I find myself going back to them time and time again. There's something so satisfying about see that little bit of extra dirt and grime on a toner-soaked cotton pad (surely I'm not the only one, right?). So, while I may not be able to convince my mum, I may just be able to covert you over to the dark side.

5 REASONS WHY I STILL USE A TONER

1. Cleanses and clears skin of impurities. This is particularly important if, like me, you use a milk, oil or cream cleanser, which can leave a residue even after rinsing it off. And even if you don't, you'll be surprised at how much dirt can be left on the skin after cleaning it, especially if you've worn makeup that day.

2. Helps to balance natural pH levels. If you suffer from dry, irritated or acne prone skin, your pH levels could possibly be out of whack, and a good toner combined with other great protective skincare can help to restore your skins alkaline levels, which will result in brighter, healthier and happier skin.

3. Preps and primes skin for skincare. A good toner also makes skin more receptive to the rest of your skincare regime, such as serums and moisturisers, as clean, moistened skin is more likely to help them absorb into the skin as much as possible, thus assisting them to do their job properly as well.

4. Soothes and freshens skin. If you've found the right toner for your skin type, they can really soothe and refresh your skin. The trick is to make sure you're not using a toner that isn't too harsh and doesn't strips away your natural facial oils. After using a toner, your skin should feel amazing, not uncomfortably dry and tight.

5. Helps to reduce blemishes. Some acne can be caused by a buildup of dead skin cells, excess oils and grimy residues, all of which a toner can assist in removing. As a result, many can expect less breakouts and more clear, glowing skin
