My Top 7 Sunscreens for Hot Summer Days

And my sunburn story (the one where I learnt my lesson!).
________

When I was 14, we had our Year 10 Beach Carnival at one of Perth's perfect white stretches of beach, where we had a whole lot of fun under the sun. We even wrote our team numbers on our legs with colourful zink sticks. It was a pretty perfect day and a horrific week to come. Fast forward several hours to when I realised how bloody stupid and idiotic I was to have forgotten to put sunscreen on my legs. Why did I do that? Or, more precisely, why did I not do that? For a week, not only were my legs an angry shade of red (with a white number '1' on my right calf), but I was in a terrible amount of burning pain. Walking was excruciating, let alone sitting down or any other type of mild activity. I'm pretty certain you could fry an egg on the back of my knees.

Before long, the redness turned into a 'healthy' shade of tan (and by 'healthy' I mean seriously, very, incredibly unhealthy). Oh, and then it peeled off in messy patches until I was happily back to my usual shade of pearlescent white. Needless to say, I have been practically dipping my body in a bath of beautiful, wonderful, fabulous sunscreen ever since that fateful experience of lessons learnt. It was then that I vowed never ever to allow myself to put myself under the extremely harmful rays of the sun again without protection. I will not allow that experience to escape my memory and will forever vouch for slip-slop-slapping.

This summer, I've pretty much perfected my SPF lineup and so I figured it was only right to share with you the sunscreens I'll be using constantly over the next few months. And, I'm going to begin with the one's that have definitely appeared here on Lion in the Wild more than once. I'm actually already onto my second tube of the Clinique SPF 30+ Body Cream already over these past couple of months, my second Neutrogena Beach Defence Water + Sun Barrier Lotion Sunscreen SPF 50 (probably my favourite sunscreen for long days on the coast) and my third can of the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen Spray SPF 50+ (a great on-the-go top up of SPF).

I was actually surprised by how much I adore the Eco Tan Natural Coconut Sunscreen SPF 30, a tinted lotion, but it actually makes my skin look flawless (hello even skin tone!). I actually prefer the tinted formula over the non-tinted cream, as I find the other one makes you look super white/purple - not good! Not surprisingly though, I absolutely adore the feel of the Milk Dry Touch SPF 50+ Sunscreen, which comes in a very convenient and good looking pump bottle, and dries onto the skin almost instantly - none of that gross greasy feeling over here ladies and gentlemen.

Of course, if you really want to splurge on your SPF, the Jurlique Sun Lotion SPF 30+ not only has a beautiful non-sunscreen-y scent, but has a whole bunch of other good stuff for you too like Vitamin E, avocado, jojoba oil and more. Plus, it comes in a stunning glass Jurlique bottle that is a perfect on-the-go handbag essential (without taking up too much room!).
