Is the Sephora Smart Liner Really Mistake-Proof?

The liquid eye liner, redesigned.

When I think about liquid eyeliner, I think about this meme. Surely I'm not the only one, right? I must say though, I'm getting so much better at applying eyeliner, but I still stuff it up majorly at least a few times a week (and that's on a good week!). And while gel liners have been my jazz for a few months now, I'm starting to crave the jet black lines of a liquid pen once again.

That's where the Sephora Collection Smart Liner comes in in all of its ergonomic awesomeness. I mean, this is no ordinary run-of-the-mill eyeliner pen. It's funky shape and unique design means that it sits perfectly in your hand, making for a very comfortable application process. The real question, of course, is is it easy to use? Is this the fool-proof winged liner tool we've all been waiting for? Well, maybe not.

Don't get me wrong, I actually really like the Sephora Smart Liner. It ticks a lot of boxes; true matte black finish, doesn't bleed or smudge after drying, provides a sharp graphic line and fits in the hand so well that you'll no longer have to worry about getting the shakes when you're trying to create that perfect line. Sephora dubs the tool as being 'mistake-proof', but it definitely isn't - I could still create a not-so-cute panda look with the Smart Liner, believe you me.

To be honest, I think it really depends on how you work with a liquid eyeliner pen. I'm a 'stamping' kinda' gal (I usually gently press the side of the felt tip along my lash line to create the line I'm after), whereas the way you hold this ergonomic tool lends itself to actually drawing a continuous black line mostly with the pointy end, which for me takes some practice.

In saying that though, if you do have trouble with the tricksy liquid liner, then the Smart Liner is probably your best bet.

Have you tried an ergonomic eye liner pen yet?
