3 Reasons You Should Start Your Resolutions Now
February is the new January.
________
I'm actually doing pretty good at a couple of My 2016 New Years Resolutions. I cooked two new meals over the last month, as well as several classics (you know, the ones we go back to time and time again), and already organised a few trips for the first half of the year. Brad and I even managed to keep the house in tip top shape until the last week or so, and I've been working out far more than I did last year. The truth is that it takes time to set up new habits and we should take it one step at a time. So, if you've failed miserably already, not to worry because February is the time you should really be starting your resolutions, and here's three reasons why.
________
1. January is pretty much a write-off.
Chances are, last month, you were still recovering from the weeks spent digesting too much delicious food, too many refreshing mojitos and too much lazying about. Or at least I was. There's no point throwing yourself into a heavy exercise regiment when you've been doing nothing for the passed couple of weeks and are still taking advantage of all the public holidays. the best thing you can do is give yourself a break after an always hectic December, recharge and slowly get into it. Let February be the month you go full throttle.
2. Learn from mistakes and failures.
The thing about failure is that you're able to see what has worked and what hasn't. In January, I realised that if Brad and I dedicated just a couple of hours every weekend doing housework that the house will stay clean, and if we don't, well, that's self explanatory. I also noted that I work well with momentum in all areas of my life; the more I use my time effectively, the more I use my time effectively. Understand me?
This is most certainly the case for exercise as well. If I workout every morning, then I will continue to do that, but if I miss even just one session, then chances are I'll skip another. On Friday morning, I was very sore after Thursday's arms and abs circuit (yes, this is a thing), so I decided to do 20-minutes of rehabilitation (stretching) instead to keep up the momentum, but also not push my body too hard.
3. Reflect and re-work your goals.
I noted a lack of business related resolutions over January, so I've put my head down, visualised where I want to be at the end of the year and got my hands on The Entrepeneur Journal by DailyGreatness to help me action them. I know that I'll need a few weeks throughout the year to work solely on the growth of my business, so I've also scheduled them into my Calendar. Reflecting and re-working goals is essential not just in February, but throughout the year.
________
In short, while I know I'll be more successful with my goals in February since I'm back into my usual routine, I also understand that I'm going to continue to fail, learn, re-work and try again. The thing is, I'm going to give myself the best possible shot to succeed. I've already put aside time this weekend to hang up my clothes, organise my things, wipe down the bathrooms and mop the floors (by the time you read this, our house is going to be in tip-top shape!).
