How to Wear Summer Styles in Winter

Because when all of our favourite online boutiques are celebrating summer, we can too!

There's no doubting that living in the southern hemisphere can induce quite the fashion conundrum at this time of the year. While we battle against crisp temperatures and rainy days, many of our favourite online boutiques (Shopbop, I'm looking at you) are celebrating perfect summer days with floaty dresses and pretty playsuits. And who can blame them?

Thankfully though, one of my favourite things about the cold weather are cosy winter layers, not that our usual sunny Perth weather calls for them often. Alas, it's true, our winters are generally pretty mild, no matter how much we complain (something I like to put down to acclimatisation, or at least that's my excuse).

Luckily for us, that means we can still splurge at our favourite stores, with perhaps a little creativity to help us battle the elements. So, today I wanted to share with you how you can shop summer styles and wear them in winter.

1. Stock-up on versatile wardrobe staples. Without a doubt, my year-round uniform is the classic t-shirt and jeans combination. The best thing about this is that these pieces are in stock all the time, so winter is a great season to invest in a few throw-on tees and a pair of good quality jeans that you'll no doubt wear to death under a layer or two for many months to come (and beyond!).

2. Invest in the timeless classics. If in doubt, just chuck on a cosy scarf and your favourite pair of boots, or at least that's my philosophy when it comes to winter. These are two classics that you can almost always find online no matter the season because, put simply, they're timeless. You'll wear them season after season, year after year.

3. Have fun with creative layering. I don't know about you, but I'm always wanting to wear summer trends in winter (and vice versa!). Instead of waiting for our warm weather to swing around again, I like to get creative. Love the slip dress trend? Layer it with a long sleeved tee. Got your eye on a fabulous jumpsuit? Style it with a cool jacket.
