Rediscovering Tokyo in Acne Studios
Not-so Lost in Translation.
The beeping of traffic lights. The whirling of sirens. The bump-bump, bump-bump of train tracks. The almost-silent pitter-patter of footsteps. They're the familiar sounds of Tokyo, welcoming you back with open arms in a way that only a unique city like this could.
And while these are the constant noises of a bustling international city, I can't help but feel comforted, the same warm feeling rivalled only by Lost in Translation, not for the narrative (though brilliant) but the atmosphere that makes the film so special.
And so, I found myself prancing around Shinjuku, discovering old favourite spots and hunting for the best ramen* in one of my favourite winter outfits to date. In fact, it's kind of like a culmination of my most-worn affordable wardrobe staples: the $36 grey marl sweater I've had for over four years, an oversized white shirt (do I need to explain?) and the very old wool gloves that only make an appearance during winter holidays.
Of course, then there are the quality classic staples (you know, the perfect jeans, the perfect boots, the perfect bag) that I have already worn and used to death, sans the leather jacket, which saw it's first time draped around my shoulders on this very trip (and it sure won't be the last!).
I felt comfortable and warm and 'full-as-a-bull', probably definitely induced by the sheer amount of delicious ramen consumed. Yeah, I probably shouldn't have ordered that bowl of rice. Alas, that is what travelling is all about, right?
And it's also about rediscovering old cities once loved; the ones that despite the red flashing lights and multitudes of people, still make you feel like you're right where you should be in its welcoming embrace.
*Ramen dreams were made at Ichiban, which, by the way, is so worth the line.
I'm wearing: Acne Studios leather moto jacket, skinny jeans and boots, ASOS sweater (old - similar here), ASOS oversized white shirt, Janessa Leone hat, 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli bag and wool gloves.
