When I Was Little I Wanted To Be...

Embracing different characters with fashion.

________

I must admit, I felt like a less boho version of Penny Lane when I first put on this Shilla shaggy coat; all I needed was a little crochet, some crazy curly hair and my round reflector Ray-Ban's. That's one of the reasons I actually adore fashion so much; you can be whatever you want to be.

When I was a little girl, I really wanted to be a actress slash singer (probably influence by my fan-girling of Britney Spears - Crossroads anyone?), so I'd dress up in a crop top and mini skirt, and perform for my poor poor parents. Then, circa 2001, I decided I really just and to be a fashion designer, and so I'd raid my mum's closet and steal all of her scarves to dress myself in a creation of my own making. That lasted until late high school, when I realised I couldn't sew no matter how hard I tried, and proceeded in the direction to become an art director in advertising. While I'm not any of those things now, I feel like I'm definitely a combination of all (yes, including a singer - you should hear me in the shower!).

I love that fashion can allow you to take on a different character without actually changing yourself and staying true to your own style. If you wake up and feel like being a rock chick, chuck on a pair of skinnies, a leather jacket and chunky boots. If you want to embrace your inner beach babe, layer a light kaftan over a bikini and pair them with a straw hat and lace-up sandals. Regardless of what you do, you can still embrace whatever you want to be.
