18 Things To Do in Spring
Spring has sprung.
________
PS. It's an unintentionally lengthy post (oops), so sit back and relax, and get excited for spring!
________
MY TOP THINGS TO DO IN SPRING
1. Picnic in a park. There is nothing better than catching up with friends over a delicious picnic spread as you lounge away the hours under the warm sunshine. In fact, I love picnic-ing so much that I've already made plans to enjoy a picnic with a whole bunch of fabulous ladies at our stunning inner city Kings Park later this spring. With sprawling city and river views, it's hard not to get excited over it.
2. Go kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding. Mostly residing on the coast, a huge part of the 'Aussie lifestyle' is spending as much time as possible by the water, on the water or in the water. Spring is such a great time to hire a kayak or stand-up paddle board and enjoy our lengthening spring days with some light exercise and plenty of sunshine. Plus, they're both a lot of fun.
3. Get your (fake) tan on. Come spring, my skin is so ridiculously pearlescent that I worry the people around me will get sunburnt just from the glare off my own body (not that there is anything wrong with being pale, believe you me). Sun baking, as well must all know by now, is a big no no, and since fake tans are so damn good these days, there's really no excuses. In spring I like to wear a light tan and have just started using the new Rimmel London Sun Shimmer Self Tan Mousse in Light Matte, and my goodness is it amazingly natural. I mentioned a few of my favourite tanning products here too.
4. Stock up on SPF. It's this time of the year that Brad and I always find ourselves hauling hard with everything SPF at Priceline. I've made a habit of slathering on sunscreen if I'm ever heading outside because sunburn sucks, ageing sucks and, yeah, cancer sucks. I have a whole bunch of different products, from lotions, sprays, waterproof, facial sunscreens and more.
5. Open your windows. It might sound silly, but there's something so nice about opening your windows on a warm spring day and letting in the fresh air (even just in your car). We just had sheer white curtains installed in our new home and they look so magical blowing in the breeze.
6. Eat fresh strawberries. Another seasonal love - delicious, juicy and fresh local strawberries! Our fridge is currently brimming with punnets of strawberries and I find myself adding some to my morning bircher muesli, snacking on them throughout the day and dipping them into melted chocolate for dessert. Yep, I could live on them!
7. Spring clean! It isn't all fun and games ladies and gentlemen. Unless of course you love organising, like me, then ignore the previous statement. The spring clean is all about giving your house a thorough going through, whether it's wiping over every surface or donating old items to a local charity store. Not only will your house look amazing, but you'll also feel so much lighter.
8. Visit a flower park. Not only are they very Instagrammable (#typicalblogger), but flower parks are just so beautiful and won't fail to put a smile on your face. There's something so lovely about colourful blooms, buzzing bees and chirping birds, isn't there?
9. Splurge on new makeup launches. There are so many new makeup launches come spring that it's often a little difficult to narrow it down to just one or two purchases. I really want to try the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipsticks, the Laura Mercier Candleglow Luminizing Palette and the Giorgio Armani Runway Palette. Don't they all look stunning?
10. A Spring Fitness Challenge. As you may know from Sunday's post, but I have set myself a personal lifestyle challenge, the Spring Fitness Challenge, where I exercise at least 5 times a week. Instagram is all about 'summer bodies are made in winter', but we all know it's way too cold and dark (JK, it's a good quote, okay). My Challenge is all about being the best person I can be, which is a fit, healthy and happy self. You can read more about it here.
11. Go on a hike. Before it's too hot! Brad and I have plans to do a massive walk along the beach to the next major hub, which is about two-hours or so each way. We'll start super early, so hopefully we'll be back my midday when the sun is at its harshest. And even if we're not, it's a great excuse to jump in the water anyway.
12. Sit outside at a café. This one doesn't necessarily apply to Perth, let's be honest. We're lucky enough to be able to sit outside and enjoy the warm sunshine year-round, but even still, it's so nice to sip on a fresh smoothie and catch-up with friends at your favourite café outside.
13. Buy fresh flowers. It's this time of the year that our florists and supermarkets are packed with beautiful fresh and seasonal blooms, which not only make the best gift, but also brighten up the home as well.
14. Pack away your winter coats. I'm about to buy a whole bunch of storage boxes for the top of our walk-in wardrobe so we can pack away those random bits and pieces, as well as my seasonal closet pieces. And you know what the best thing about this is? I've just made room for some new spring dresses! I currently have my eye on this pinstriped shirt dress, this fabulous high neck lace dress (isn't it just so beautiful?) and this oversized draped dress. So many amazing things!
15. Watch the AFL Finals with friends. September means the AFL Finals series has begun and each year I spend each weekend of the month watching the footy, having a few drinks and getting a little vocal. Both Western Australian teams this years are currently places #1 and #2 on the ladder, so I have a feeling this is going to be the most passionate September yet! Bring it on! #goeagles
16. Do a winery tour. I love great food and I love a good glass of wine, so luckily for us, our country is full of top notch wineries. Spring is a great time to visit your favourite wine region too, since the grounds are usually green and full of flowers, and the weather is just too good not to.
17. Get planting! Before the heat of summer sets in, Brad and I have plans to plant the majority of our new garden (we literally have none right now). We're planning a thick jungle outside our kitchen, beautiful bougainvilleas along our fence line and green hedges out the front, among even more. Since we live in a subtropical climate in Perth, the best time to plant is now, since we'll still have more rain and the sun isn't burning hot. Needless to say, we have a lot of work to do, but it'll be worth it!
18. Read a book on the beach. This time of the year always brings in some pretty 'gnarly' swells, so I expect Brad to be down at the beach more often than not, which is a great excuse for me to follow him down with a book in hand, ready to embrace the salty air and sun rays.
