6 Ways to Rock a Neon Pink Lip

When I filmed this Maybelline haul video, I said that I didn't think I'd ever wear the Maybelline Superstay 14HR Mega Watt Lipstick in Burst of Coral (455). I mean, I didn't expect it to be so, well, neon or pink, so I was a bit shocked when I swatched it in the video. After all, I was looking for a bright coral shade, which the name suggests, but it didn't quite go to plan. In an attempt to mix things up a bit (hence the #7DayMakeupChallenge), I decided that I could and I would wear this lipstick.

First of all, it smells freaking delicious, like packet of Starburst lollies (now I'm craving red, purple and blue jelly babies!), so why would I not want to wear it? And secondly, a swipe of the Mega Watt Lipstick is sure to pack a punch and really up the ante in terms of your beauty look. The thing is though, it can be a tricky shade to master, so I've put together a few tips and tricks to help a gal out.

MY 6 RULES FOR WEARING (AND ROCKING) NEON PINK LIPSTICK:

1. Prep your lips. Leave your lips smooth and moisturised by using a lip exfoliant and treatment (I love the Red Earth Lip Nectar). The truth is, nothing ruins a bold lipstick like dry and flaky lips. Plus, not only will your lipstick look better, but it will stay put for longer. Win, win!

2. Wear a matte foundation. I'm into dewy skin as much as the next person, but I always feel like a bright lip looks best with a matte base. Your skin should look as clean, fresh and flawless as possible if you want to really pull off this look.

3. Go natural with the blush. Unless you're channeling the 80s, I'd stick with very minimal blush or, if you're a little heavy on the hand, none at all.

4. Go with natural, soft or sharp eye makeup. Your neon lip is like a bride; it shouldn't be competing for attention. And while a natural eye look means a no-fuss straight-out-the-door beauty sesh, you can of course add a little zing to your look with some soft, smokey eyeshadow or a sharp winged liner, all of which can complement your eye-catching swipe of lipstick.

5. Line your waterline with white eyeliner. Keep those eyes bright and awake, or fake it, with a swipe of white eyeliner on your waterline. It will open your eyes like you won't believe and will compliment the pop of colour on your lips.

6. Break the rules. Always remember that rules are there to be broken, so if you want to try something different, why the heck not? So long as you feel fabulous and confident, rock that neon pink lip however you like!
