Trending: Today I Am, Confident

"When a woman says 'I have nothing to wear!', what she really means is,
'There's nothing here for who I'm supposed to be today.'" - Caitlin Moran
________

When I first heard that quote, it really struck a chord with me, as though the many hours I'd spent rummaging through my wardrobe without finding a single outfit to wear finally made sense. So, when Westfield used it to describe their Spring/Summer 15 campaign, Today I Am, I knew I had to get involved and spread the word. After all, it is more than just a fashion campaign; it goes far deeper than pretty images and clothing you 'need' to add to your wish list.

Today I Am is about empowering not only yourself to be the best you can be, but everyone around us, flaws and all, which is something that I truly believe in. It's time to stand together, no matter who we are, and celebrate individual style without stereotyping or judgement. Let's challenge and push these fashion stereotypes and ideologies, and instead support each other to simply be confident through the styling choices we make, regardless of who we want to be each day.

While some mornings I prefer to wear a skirt, heels and a swipe of bright lipstick, other mornings I feel just as confident wearing one of Brad's old sweaters and a pair of cut-off shorts. For me, it depends on how I feel when I wake up, when I get ready and what I have planned for the day. And let's be honest ladies (and gentlemen!), one particular combination may make us want to strut our stuff down a busy street one day and then hide away then next. So long as our fashion choices empower us on any particular day, who cares what stereotype we're challenging?

When I stack on rings or bangles, when I put on a pair of heels or old sneakers, when I wear a dress or a crumpled t-shirt, I'm deciding that they represent the person that I want to be today. And I do it for me. I do it so that when I walk out the door (or even if I'm just at home), I feel like Today I Am the best I can be in that moment. After all, we're never going to wake up and be someone else, so shouldn't we celebrate who we are?

So, when you're shopping for a new Spring/Summer wardrobe, choose pieces that celebrate who you are and make you feel confident. If you're not comfortable in a figure hugging garment, then go for something more roomy and oversized, and vice versa. Choose styles that are not just trendy, but also make you feel simply amazing by embracing both your strengths and weaknesses. None of us are perfect, so let's challenge the norm and just be our best selves possible.

Today I Am confident.
Today I Am real.
Today I Am me.
